AMC to begin demolition of encroachments in Nehrunagar-Iskcon Circle   by Realesate Expert

Are you one the many commuters who on passing through the Nehrunagar-Iskcon Circle stretch in the evening rush hour wished the roads got a little wider? Your wish will come true soon.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will carry out a massive demolition drive from November 14 to raze encroachments on the margin area that have been illegally extended onto the roads.
AMC had earlier slapped notices on 71 buildings in Satellite, Vastrapur and Bodakdev asking them to make available ground floor space for parking and clear encroachments on the road by October 31. However, with hardly a few buildings acting on the notices, AMC has decided to carry out the demolition beginning with the Nehrunagar to Iskcon stretch. Around 30 malls and buildings on the stretch will face the AMC bulldozers.
Notices were issued to Courtyard Marriott, Gold Coin Complex, Star Bazaar Iskcon Mall, Gulmohar Park and Dev Arc Mall among others, AMC officials said.
“Many commercial complexes on the stretch have eaten into ground floor parking spaces and converted these into service areas, restaurants or private parking. The stretch sees lots of traffic jams due to vehicles carelessly parked on the road. Once we make space for parking inside the building area, people will have a wider road to commute,” said a senior AMC official. Buy Apartment
AMC officials said that once completed on this stretch, the demolition drive will move to other areas. AMC has already prepared a list of over 250 commercial buildings and hyper-marts in west and new west zones where ground floor parking space has been illegally encroached on.

It needs to reduce by another 30%. Even with a further 30% reduction, the civic body will still generate revenue of approximately Rs 5,500 crore from property tax annually.”
According to chairman of the standing committee Rahul Shewale, the revised formula will soon be tabled in the standing committee. “This is going to bring uniformity in the tax paid by suburbs and island city residents. The change is also mandated under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission,” he said.
